Reminders from the office...

  • Sending Cash to School:  Please remember to send the correct change with your student(s) when paying for Field Trips, Pictures, Fundraisers, etc.  Teachers do not have cash on hand in their classrooms to make change.  You are welcome to stop in at the office to see if we can make change before turning these items in to the classroom teachers. 

  • Students Arriving Late to School:  We have an number of students arriving late for school.  Students are expected to be at school entering the building at 7:40 am when the first bell rings.  If your student arrives in the building after the second bell at 7:45 am, they must stop at the office to check in before going to class.  Our School Social Worker, Rebecca Holmes, has been talking to classrooms about the importance of arriving to school on time.  Please click on the following link to view an informative flyer:  Attendance and Tardiness

  • Pick Up After School: For the safety of all students, please make sure that you are on time to pick up your child.  You should be at school when students dismiss at 2:45 pm.  If you are unable to be at school at 2:45 pm, you should make alternate arrangements for your child's pick up.  Please make sure that you keep a consistent routine and that your child knows where to meet you.   

  • Change of Clothing:  Students in Grades KG-1 should have an extra set of season-appropriate clothing at school at all times in the event they soil their clothes due to recess activities, lunch spills, bathroom accidents or other health issues.

 Franklin Fall Dance                     November 1, 2019                       5:30 to 7:00 pm

The Franklin Student Council will be sponsoring a Fall Dance on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Franklin Elementary School Gym and Cafeteria Areas.  Students may choose to wear a Costume. Orders Due November 1

Art to Remember order forms went home with students mid-October.  The order forms are due back November 1 to school in order to ensure Christmas delivery.  Orders can be made online after November 1, but will not be guaranteed by Christmas.

         Grades K-2 Winter Concert                            November 26 @ 6:00 pm

The 2019 Winter Concert for students in Grades K-2 is scheduled for Tuesday, November 26, 2019, in the Alberta Kimball Auditorium at Oshkosh West High School.  Students may enter the facility at 5:30 p.m. and sit with their classes in the back of the auditorium.   We are so excited to share our music with you! As appropriate audience members, please stay until the completion of the entire concert. After Kindergarten's portion, they will return to sit with their families. 1st and 2nd-grade students will return to their original seats in the back with their classes until the completion of the program. The concert begins at 6:00 p.m. and should be finished no later than 7:00 p.m.   If you have questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to call or email our music teacher, Ms. Maralee Mindock  (920) 424-0078 Ext. 6262 or via email:

PTCO Bake Sale Fundraiser Cupcake - Free pictures on Pixabay        Tuesday, November 26                  After the Concert

The PTCO will be hosting a Bake Sale at Oshkosh West High School  as you exit the Franklin Winter Concert on Tuesday, November 26. Please consider purchasing a sweet treat on your way out of the concert to raise money for the Franklin PTCO.

Picture Retake Day November 7

Picture Retake Day will be Thursday, November 7.  Students who were absent on the original picture day of October 4 and any new students to Franklin School will get their picture taken.  If you need your child's picture retaken, please return your picture package with your child on that day, call the office to be added to the photo list, or send a note with your child requesting a retake.  Please contact Becky in the school office if you have questions.

Winter Clothing

It is never too early to start thinking about warmer clothes for your students as we approach the colder months of the year.  We want to remind you to make sure that your child brings the appropriate clothing to wear outside.    Keep in mind that as soon as it snows, your child will need to have snow pants and boots to play in the snow.  Please make sure that all of your child's belongings are marked with your child’s name.  The recess guidelines for what to wear and whether students will go out or stay in is listed below.

Recess Jacket Guidelines

Less than 50 degrees– STOP students must wear a jacket. 

 50-59 degrees– SLOW DOWN – jacket choice (Can’t come back in) '

60 degrees and above– GO.  No jacket needed.

Indoor Recess Guidelines

 Less than 10 degrees or Zero Wind Chill or rain– STOP stay inside

10 degrees and above Zero Wind Chill– GO OUTSIDE

All Franklin students and their families are invited to participate in a Run/Walk on Saturday, November 2 @ 9:00 am.  Registration forms went home with students this month to sign up.  The cost is $5.00 per runner ($20 cap per family)  All money raised will be put toward the Franklin playground project.  Franklin 5K Flyer 


Oshkosh West Homecoming Parade 

Thank you to all of our students and parents who braved the weather to participate in this year's Oshkosh West Homecoming.  Our parade "Entry" won 1st place.  Franklin won $200 to put toward our new playground fund. Great job!

Mark your calendars!  Monday, November 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm will be a Franklin Family Night at Culver's at the 1580  S. Koehler Road location in Oshkosh.  The PTCO will earn 10% of the profits that evening to benefit the Franklin playground equipment project.  Please encourage everyone you know to attend!  PTCO Flyer

Enjoy a night out with friends, family , and students of Franklin Elementary at the Wisconsin Herd game on Friday, November 15 at 7:00 pm.  A portion of the ticket sales will be donated back to the school!  Everyone will be invited down onto the court to shoot a free throw following the game.  Flyers went home with all student to pre-order tickets for this event.  The link is below, but you must turn it in immediately to participate as these your order is due back to school on November 1.                       Wisconsin Herd Flyer

The Franklin PTCO will be putting on a Scholastic Book Fair at Franklin Elementary School in the Media Center from Monday, November 11 to Friday, November 15.  Please click on the following link for the full details and hours: Franklin Scholastic Book Fair

Please note...In addition to the evening event for families on November 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, students will have the opportunity to visit the book fair to make purchases.  Check out the E-Wallet option in the link to allow your student to shop without having to carry cash to school.  

Ice Cream Social

Franklin Family Night

Author Baptiste Paul visited Franklin School on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2019.  Students attended special author sessions in the afternoon, and then more than 100 families were treated to a special Family Night in the evening.  Students and their families participated in various stations with a Carribean theme, such as sampling Carribean food, making Friendship bracelets, learning Carribean folk tunes, and playing steel drums!  The final event of the evening was a presentation by Baptiste Paul. He told about the research that he does in order to write his books. A fun time was had by all, especially those who participated in his African water bucket challenge!

Three lucky winners were randomly drawn from the Family Night attendees (left to right):  Ella Smith, Marina Tousey-Schmidt, and Gio-Vannie Vazquez. They won autographed copies of Mr. Paul’s books.

I-Ready Assessment - Fall 2019                                

Dear Parents and Guardians: 

In an effort to increase communication on student progress we are excited to share that the Oshkosh Area School District is implementing a math and reading assessment program for grades 3-8 called i-Ready. Below, you will find information on the assessment and how we will be using it in the classroom. i-Ready will support full implementation of our district adopted curriculum resources.

What is i-Ready?

i-Ready is an online assessment that, when combined with multiple other data sources, is used to determine your child’s strengths and needs, personalize his or her learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready provides additional information that allows us to meet your child exactly where he or she is and provides data for us to increase your child’s mathematical and literacy knowledge. 

The i-Ready Assessment and Results

The purpose of this adaptive assessment is to estimate a present level of performance. Each question students respond to is adapted based on his/her previous responses to questions. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will result in slightly easier questions.  Your child’s results reflect a snapshot in time and will help the teacher make informed decisions about meeting your child’s needs in the classroom.

When will my child take the i-Ready assessment?

Students will take the assessment three times per year: fall, winter, and spring.

 Holiday Shopping Faire

The Franklin Holiday Shopping Faire is coming to town. . .The Franklin PTCO will hold its annual Holiday Shopping Faire on Friday, December 6, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Franklin School. Franklin students pay $3.00 cash for admission to the event, siblings and family are welcome to attend and enjoy activities for free. Franklin students are able to shop and wrap gifts for three loved ones. Parents/guardians are not allowed in the shopping area since the children are independently shopping for special gifts they will give. We do have volunteer “elves” to help those that need assistance.

We are now accepting items that are NEW or QUALITY- MADE to be used as gifts for the Holiday Faire. Items may include, but are not limited to; picture frames, funky socks, slippers, coffee mugs, stress balls, coloring books, jewelry, tools, decorations for the home, pet toys, candles, nail polish, toys for all ages, etc. Our little shoppers will be looking to pick out gifts for moms, dads, guardians, siblings, grandparents, and pets. Help us stock the faire! Items will be accepted through December 2nd.  A large box will be placed outside of the school office for your donations.

Scrip was a great fundraiser for our school last year so we are doing it again! We will be doing 2 separate orders, early November and early December.  Through Scrip we hope to raise money for our new playground equipment. Raffle Baskets for Holiday Faire

The PTCO is asking that each classroom donate items toward a themed basket that will be raffled off at the Holiday Faire on Friday, December 6. Each grade levels’ items will be combined to create a total of six awesome baskets, and one gift card tree. Items brought should relate to the theme assigned. 

Please send all raffle basket donations to school no later than Friday, November 22nd. 

KINDERGARTEN- SNOW MUCH FUN - Sledding, hot cocoa, mittens, skiing, snowballs, ice skating, etc.

FIRST GRADE- ARTS & CRAFTS - Stickers, card stock paper, markers, paint, slime materials, etc.  

SECOND GRADE - FOR THE HOME - Cleaning supplies, laundry soap, dish soap, paper products, toilet paper, etc.               

THIRD GRADE - BEDTIME STORIES - Books, cozy blanket, reading light, magazines, journal, bookmark, etc.  

FOURTH GRADE - SPORTS OF ALL SORTS - Basketball, football, golf, WI Team apparel, etc.

PBIS - The Franklin Way Update


  • Franklin staff has been working hard to teach all the students the school’s expectations: be respectful, be responsible, be safe. Students rotated through different stations throughout the school to learn what being respectful, responsible, and safe looks in common areas such as the cafeteria, hallway, and bathroom.
  • Students have also worked with their classroom teachers to create the respectful, responsible, and safe expectations in their classroom. Ask your student if he or she can explain what it looks like at different parts of their day in the classroom!


Each month students of all grade levels are “mashed” up and assigned a classroom to meet. Their mash-up teacher guides them through a short lesson and activity. In October, they met their mash-up groups and teachers and listened to a story about diversity. They learned that we all have similarities that connect us and differences that make us unique. 

Celebrating Success:

  • We’ve had a successful start to our school year! Students are acknowledged for following expectations by receiving a Franklin Way ticket. When whole classes are caught following expectations they can receive a class feather.
  • Students can use their individual tickets to purchase items on their classroom ticket menu, or enter their ticket in a school-wide raffle.
  • Franklin reached their first goal and celebrated with a movie in their classroom. The classes are working hard to earn the feathers for their next celebration.
