What’s Happening in Guidance?
February 3rd - 7th is National School Counseling Week!
In honor of this week, here are some fun facts about School Counselors and what we do: Our role has evolved throughout the years now including counseling strategies and focusing on all students’ social and emotional growth. School Counselors have national standards from the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model to teach. These standards we teach fall into three main categories: personal/social, academic, and career readiness. School Counselors follow ethical guidelines in all the work we do. One of the biggest ethical considerations we must abide by is confidentiality. We must respect the privacy of the students and families we serve.
February 17th - 21st is Random Acts of Kindness Week!
Each student will be given a Kindness challenge during the month of February. Ask your student if he/she has completed their challenge and see how you can get involved.
Social Emotional Learning - Communication
In February we will be focused on communication. Students will be provided with the communication skills needed to solve problems that may arise throughout
the day whether in the classroom, at recess, or even at home. Some helpful resources include learning the steps to solving a problem, how to appropriately use “I Messages”, and different ways to problem solve. Ask your child about some of the ways they can use to try to solve a problem they might face.
100th day of school!
Kindergarten is collecting cat and dog food for the humane society. Our goal is 100 items for the 100th day of school. If anyone would like to help us meet our goal, they can bring their item to a kindergarten classroom.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Tuesday, February 4 - 4:00 to 7:15 pm
Please click on the following link to login in to PTCFast to schedule an appointment with your child's teacher. All students will have a conference at this time. Conferences will last 15 minutes unless specified otherwise. Please note that if you created a PTCFast account previously, you can continue to use that same account. If you are unable to set up an account, please contact the school office at 424-0078 to schedule an appointment for you.
State law allows you to excuse your student up to ten times within a school year (all or part of a day) without a medical excuse. Once your child has absences beyond the 10 days, you may be required to bring a medical excuse to excuse absences. If you have received a letter requiring that you bring a medical excuse, any absence without a medical excuse will be marked as unexcused.
When a student receives five (5) unexcused absences, they are considered habitually truant and a meeting with have to be set up to come up with a plan to remedy the attendance concerns. The best way to help your student be successful in school is to help them maintain positive school attendance. We appreciate your help with this matter.
