Quick Reference/Notes...
-
REGISTER FOR SCHOOL: Please make sure that you have completed the annual online registration for your student(s), which can be accessed through your parent portal account at the following link: Parent Portal If you are unable to login to your parent portal, please contact the school office to request that your portal account be reset. Please note that if your child is new to the Oshkosh Area School District, you do not have to complete the annual registration but should contact the school office to obtain a Parent Portal account for future use. Students that do not register will NOT be in the school yearbook.
-
PRACTICE SELF-SUFFICIENCY: Please work with your kids on being as self-sufficient as possible. We really need kids to be able to zip and button their coats/clothing, tie their shoes, open food containers, etc. Practicing with your kids would be very helpful so that adults are not needing to provide ongoing hands-on assistance.
-
DISTRICT/FRANKLIN HANDBOOKS: The OASD is currently working to update the School Year Handbook for the 2022-23 School Year. In addition, Franklin is working on a 2022-23 Handbook as well. As soon as these handbooks are ready, they will be shared with families.
-
FRANKLIN SCHOOL LUNCH/RECESS SCHEDULE: The daily student lunch/recess schedule is not finalized at this time. As soon as it is available, it will be shared with families.
-
OASD COVID PLAN 2022-23: The following information was shared with families via email regarding the Oshkosh School District's Covid Plan for 2022-23: Covid Plan 2022-23
Classroom Assignments & Get To Know You Conferences (GTKY)
Get to Know You Conferences will be held on Monday, August 29, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. by appointment. Please enter the school through the Main Entrance (Door #1). We believe that this time to share information is one of the most important ways we can work together as a team to make your child's educational experiences successful. All conferences will be held in your child's classroom limited to 15 minutes per student and only one conference per student. During this conference time, you will be able to meet your teacher, bring your school supplies, and get acquainted with your classroom individually.
To schedule a conference, we ask that you login to PTC Fast to create an account to schedule a Get To Know You Conference with your child's teacher on August 29.
NOTE: Due to possible gliches in the system, if you are an OASD employee please do not use your OASD email address; use your personal email address.
To schedule a conference, please click on the following link: PTC Fast If you are unable to use the PTC Fast System, please call the Franklin School Office at 920-424-0078 to schedule an appointment over the phone. If you are unable to attend this event, you may contact the classroom teacher directly to see if they are able to accommodate an alternative date/time. Families that do not attend a Get To Know You Conference should plan to send your child's school supplies along with them on the first day of school.
Classroom Assignments for 2022-23 School Year
Your child's classroom CONFIRMED teacher assignment was sent to you via email on August 19, 2022. NOTE: An error email was sent to families on August 16. The teacher assignment may or may not be the same as all students were not properly assigned when the error message went out. We apologize for the inconveniece; however, no changes will be made to the CONFIRMED teacher assignments sent on August 19. You will be able to view your child's teacher assignment in the Parent Portal beginning August 22. Please call the school office if you have questions.
Attendance
If your child is going to be absent or late for school for any reason, please contact the office at 424-0078 (Press "0" for the Operator). You may leave a message on the voice mail system to report the absence. If you email the teacher, please also email the office. Absences are considered "unexcused" if we do not hear from a parent/guardian. Students who are absent from school more than 10 minutes of any part of the day without a proper excuse shall be recorded as unexcused. A student who is absent less than 10 minutes of a day shall be recorded as tardy. The time a student enters or leaves the building will be documented, and the system will calculate the absence accordingly and uniformly across the district. Please keep this in mind as you schedule appointments for your children. It is always best to schedule appointments during non-school hours. Students are expected to be in class from 7:45 to 2:45 daily.
The District's attendance policy aligns with State DPI attendance policies. To view the Oshkosh School District's attendance policy, please click on the following link: OASD Board Policies You will need to click on the Icon to the upper right that says "POLICIES" then click on the button that indicated "5000 Students" then select 5200 Attendance.
Calling the School
When you call the main school office number of 920-424-0078, you have the option to leave a message directly for a teacher without going through the office. You can reach the teacher's voicemail by keying in their last name or using the voicemail extensions on the Staff Directory link at the top of the newsletter. School Times and Morning Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures
SCHOOL HOURS:
Franklin school hours for this school year are 7:45 am to 2:45 pm
STUDENTS RIDING THE BUS:
Students that ride the bus will get dropped off at the Main Entrance (Door #1) in the circle drive. The circle drive in front of school is for SCHOOL BUSES ONLY and vehicles with a valid disabled parking permit. Vehicles with a disabled parking permit MUST pull in the disabled parking stalls. This area is not a drop off or pick up site for students. When buses arrive at school, students remain on the bus until 7:30 am, which is when the school doors open and students can come directly in and proceed to their classrooms.
STUDENTS WALKING TO SCHOOL OR GETTING DROPPED OFF FROM A PERSONAL VEHICLE:
Franklin students will come directly into the building and go directly into their classrooms beginning at 7:30 am. (or as close to 7:40 am as possible. Classes begin promptly at 7:45 am). We will have staff positioned at the following school doors: #1, #2, #3, and #4 to let students into the school building. These are also the doors where students will be exiting at the end of the school day. Please refer to the school map at the following link: School Map
If your child is getting dropped off for school or picked up from school in your personal vehicle, the preferred drop off/pick up location is on Mason Street (Door #3) on the east side of Franklin and Meadow Street on the north side. (Door #1 or #2)
At promptly 7:45 am, all of the doors will lock and door supervisors will be at their work stations. Students that arrive and find their normal door locked will need to go to the main entrance at the front of school to Door #1 for the office staff to let them in and modify their attendance.
For safety reasons, students may not play on the equipment or with each other before or after school. They need to come directly into the school building at 7:30 am. If you need care before 7:30 am or after 2:55 pm, please sign up for the YMCA Before/After School Care Programs.
Please talk with your child about these procedures and where you plan to meet them after school.

School Safety Protocols for Visitors and Student Pick Up
All exit/entrance doors to Franklin Elementary School are locked at all times and are monitored by staff during arrival and dismissal times. ALL VISITORS must enter school using the Main Entrance (Door #1). There is a button to press to ring the office where we will communicate with you prior to admittance into the office. Once in the offie, you will need a driver's license to obtain a visitor badge.
Students coming and going during the school day for appointments must check out/in through the office by the main entrance (Door #1). Please communicate that with your students if you know you will be picking them up early for an appointment. You will need to pick them up at the Main Entrance (Door #1). Also, be prepared to show ID when you pick up your child if the office staff are not familar with your family. If you have someone that is not listed in Infinite Campus as an Emergency Contact picking up your child, you must contact the school prior.
Tri-County Dental Clinic
Franklin will be participating in the Free Dental Care Program through the Tri-County Dental Clinic again this year. If your Preschool, kindergarten and/or elementary school child(ren) are eligible for Free or reduced cost hot lunch, or have a Forward card from Medicaid (Badger Care) and DO NOT have private dental insurance, they can receive free dental care on the mobile unit.
There will be an initial screening by the dental clinic at Franklin Elementary School on Thursday, September 29, at 9:00 am.
Registration forms for the free program will be sent home with students the first week of school. Please turn all forms into the school office only if you wish for your child to have dental services.
School Breakfast/Lunch
All Franklin students will receive a breakfast and lunch at school each day for the 2022-23 school year at NO CHARGE. This is a result of the district's implementing the Community Eligibility Provision while participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast programs. Your students will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application. Please note that families that wish to receive additional benefits that the program provides such as free snack milk, dental care, and waived student fees, you must still complete the application as noted below. Breakfast is served in the classroom beginning at 7:45 am.
Recess Milk
Recess milk is a snack milk taken by students during the school day. The cost for recess milk is $.40 per milk. (There is no charge for recess milk if you qualify for the Free or Reduced Lunch Program) Teachers will be charging student accounts for milk daily. Please make sure that your child's teacher is aware if your child will not be taking milk so the account does not get charged.
Sack Lunch Milk
Students that choose to bring a sack lunch from home may purchase a milk at the cost of $.40. This amount will be deducted from your child's account. Daily payments for sack lunch milk will not be accepted. Please note that if you qualify for the free and reduced lunch program, you do not receive free milk with your sack lunch. In addition, please note that there are no microwaves on site for students to use at lunch time.
Free and Reduced Lunch Program
All Franklin students will be able to receive free breakfast and lunch each day; however, to be eligible for additional benefits such as waived fees, dental services, and free snack milk, you must apply for the program. All households were notified in August about applying for the free or reduced lunch program. A new application must be completed each year to be eligible for the lunch program. In addition, you can apply online for the program right in your Parent Portal.
If you have questions, please contact the Food Services Department at West High School 424-4936.

Change of Clothing
Our younger students are strongly encouraged to keep a change of clothing in their backpack in the event they soil their clothes due to recess activities, lunch spills or health issues. Due to space limitations, we do not keep extra clothing at school to accommodate these needs. Parents/Guardians will be called to bring needed clothing. In addition, parents of students who have ongoing bathroom accidents may need to be called to assist their student, if necessary.
Outdoor Recess/Personal Property at School
Franklin students will be going outside for recess, weather permitting. Students are expected to participate in outdoor recess with their classmates and should come to school prepared to go outside with the proper clothing, shoes, etc.
A doctor's note is required if your child will need to stay in for a length of time longer than 3-5 days. Please keep in mind that toys, phones, electronic games, and sporting goods should be kept at home as we do not want to risk loss or damage to your personal property.

Birthday Treats/Invitations/and Books
Treats: Edible birthday treats are not allowed per district policy. Students are allowed to bring a small, tangible birthday treat such as pencils, stickers, glowsticks, etc.
Invitations: Classroom teachers may not distribute birthday invitations to students unless they are going to an entire class. If you are inviting kids from another class, that whole entire class would need to be invited too. We prefer that birthday invitations get handled outside of school.
Birthday Books: Each year our Franklin PTO raises money to purchase books that are kept in the Principal's office. Students are invited to the Principal's office on their birthday to pick out a book to keep and take home. Students with summer month birthdays are also included in this activity during the last months of school.
