Quick Reference/Notes...

  • DISTRICT HANDBOOK:  The OASD has put together a School Year Handbook for the 2020-21 School Year.  Please click on the following link to view this information:  OASD 2021-22 School Plan Handbook

  • VISITOR PROTOCOLS: Please refer to Section 4.1 of the District Handbook above in regards to entering the school building.  Parents will not be allowed to enter the school building for any reason, unless pre-approved by the building principal or designee.  Parents needing to drop off or pick up their child during school hours will need to call the office at 424-0078 (press "0") and then wait out in their car for a staff member to meet you.  Parents will not be allowed to enter the building to visit classrooms or the cafeteria without explicit permission from the building principal.

  • DRINKING FOUNTAINS: The drinking fountains in school will be available for vessel filling ONLY.  Students and staff should not drink directly from the drinking fountains.  You will notice on the school supply list that a reusable, non-breakable bottle has been added for each grade level so that students can fill a bottle when needed.

  • PRACTICE SELF-SUFFICIENCY: Please work with your kids on being as self-sufficient as possible.   We really need kids to be able to zip and button their coats/clothing, tie their shoes, open food containers, etc.  Practicing with your kids would be very helpful so that adults are not needing to provide ongoing hands-on assistance.

Attendance – For Families – Country Lane Elementary School

Attendance

If your child is going to be absent or late for school for any reason, please contact the office at 424-0078 (Press "0" for the Operator).  You may leave a message on the voice mail system to report the absence.  If you email the teacher, please also email the office.  Absences are considered "unexcused" if we do not hear from a parent/guardian.  Students who are absent from school more than 10 minutes of any part of the day without a proper excuse shall be recorded as unexcused.  A student who is absent less than 10 minutes of a day shall be recorded as tardy.  The time a student enters or leaves the building will be documented, and the system will calculate the absence accordingly and uniformly across the district.  Please keep this in mind as you schedule appointments for your children.  It is always best to schedule appointments during non-school hours.  Students are expected to be in class from 7:45 to 2:45 daily.

The District's attendance policy aligns with State DPI attendance policies.  To view the Oshkosh School District's attendance policy, please click on the following link:  OASD Board Policies  You will need to click on the Icon to the upper right that says "POLICIES" then click on the button that indicated "5000 Students" then select 5200 Attendance.

Calling the School

When you call the main school office number of 920-424-0078, you have the option to leave a message directly for a teacher without going through the office.  You can reach the teacher's voicemail by keying in their last name or using the voicemail extensions on the Staff Directory link at the top of the newsletter.   Staff will be able to see that they have a message on their computer screens, so you can now leave changes in pick up and drop off arrangements directly with the teacher.

Your Child's Health

Welcome to the 2021-22 School Year!  Just a few reminders from your school nurse:

  • If your child requires medication to be given at school, please complete a medication request and have your health care provider sign it--forms are available at their offices or at school.  School staff cannot administer medications without your consent, the provider's signature, and original, labeled medication bottles.  If medications need to be cut in half, parents must do that prior to sending the medication to school.
  • Please report any changes in your child's health to school as soon as possible.  Your school nurse will contact your regarding school interventions.  If your child has a health plan in place, please contact the school nurse with updates.
  • If your child has a serious allergy requiring antihistamines or an epipen at school, please provide that by the first day of school, with signed authorization to use as directed.
  • Students with asthma are allowed to carry their rescue inhaler at school as needed, if approved by doctor and school nurse.  A medication sheet with a doctor signature must be on file in the health office.  If they require supervision in using the inhaler, a medication form must be completed as state above.
  • All diabetic students must have emergency supplies and testing equipment provided by parents.  The school nurse needs to get updated diabetic plans in place prior to the start of school.

Students may take off their coats and/or hang up backpacks, etc. and go into their classrooms.  We will have staff positioned at the following school doors: #1, #2, #3, and #4 to let students into the school building.  These are also the doors where students will be exiting at the end of the school.  Please refer to the school map at the following link:    School Map

If you are dropping your children off, the preferred streets for you to do so is Mason Street on the east side of Franklin and Meadow Street on the north side.

For safety reasons,  students may not play on the equipment or with each other before or after school.  They need to come directly into the school building at 7:30 am.  If you need care before 7:30 am, please sign up for the YMCA Before School Care Program.

Please talk with your child about these procedures and where you plan to meet them after school.

School Breakfast/Lunch

All Franklin students are eligible to receive a breakfast and lunch at school each day for the 2021-22 school year at NO CHARGE.  This is a result of the district's implementing the Community Eligibility Provision while participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast programs.  Your students will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application.  Please note that families that wish to receive additional benefits that the program provides such as free snack milk, dental care, and waived student fees, you must still complete the application as noted below.  Breakfast is served in the classroom beginning at 7:45 am.

Recess Milk

Recess milk is a snack milk taken by students during the school day.  The cost for recess milk is $.40 per milk.  (There is no charge for recess milk if you qualify for the Free or Reduced Lunch Program)  Teachers will be charging student accounts for milk daily.  Please make sure that your child's teacher is aware if your child will not be taking milk so the account does not get charged.

Sack Lunch Milk

Students that choose to bring a sack lunch from home may purchase a milk at the cost of $.40.  This amount will be deducted from your child's account.  Daily payments for sack lunch milk will not be accepted.  Please note that if you qualify for the free and reduced lunch program, you do not receive free milk with your sack lunch.  In addition, please note that there are no microwaves on site for students to use at lunch time.

Free and Reduced Lunch Program

All Franklin students will be able to receive free breakfast and lunch each day; however, to be eligible for additional benefits such as waived fees, dental services, and free snack milk, you must apply for the program.  All households were already mailed applications for the free or reduced lunch program.   A new application must be completed each year to be eligible for the lunch program.  In addition, you can apply online for the program right in your Parent Portal.

If you have questions, please contact the Food Services Department at West High School 424-4936.

Change of Clothing

Our younger students are strongly encouraged to keep a change of clothing in their backpack in the event they soil their clothes due to recess activities, lunch spills or health issues.  Due to space limitations, we do not keep extra clothing at school to accommodate these needs.  Parents/Guardians will be called to bring needed clothing.  In addition, parents of students who have ongoing bathroom accidents may need to be called to assist their student, if necessary.

Outdoor Recess/Personal Property at School

Franklin students will be going outside for recess, weather permitting.  Students are expected to participate in outdoor recess with their classmates and should come to school prepared to go outside with the proper clothing, shoes, etc.

A doctor's note is required if your child will need to stay in for a length of time longer than 3-5 days.  Please keep in mind that toys, phones, electronic games, and sporting goods should be kept at home as we do not want to risk loss or damage to your personal property.
